Abstraction And The Dreaming Extraordinary

For all energy and beauty of the body, all sureness and boldness of the sword, but also all genuineness and ingenuity of the understanding, are grounded in the spirit, and they rise or fall only according to the correct power or powerlessness of the spirit. Spirit is what sustains and rules, and first and the last, not merely indispensable third element

-Heidegger in the fundamental questions of metaphysics

Non-figurative art shows that art is not the expression of the appearance of reality such as we see it, nor of the life which we live, but that it is expression of true reality and true lifeindefinable but realizable in plastics.-Mondrian

It is now a fact that in culture almost every thing is politicized, organized, structuralized and has lost its generic value. In arts there is always a danger of to be politicized especially in fine art, cinema, and theater since these art forms are most prone to it because of these being most communicative languages. And when a theory of exploitation is in existence which sees language as a tool for repression and exploitation than one must take precaution. Another danger is from capitalism who do consider art as a product to be produced mechanically so far they could do business and create more and more capital. Not satisfied by what they do earn from industrial production they want to make quick money from art works and not in open market rather in virtual field i.e. in auction mechanism.

These both trends will do no good to artists and art. Artist community should be aware of these dangerous trends in order to rescue the spirit of art. In fine art, abstract art genre faces no danger from political side since its power of communication is very limited but for figurative art this danger is looming large and we have seen how Husain, Nalini Malani, Arpita Singh and many other Indian modern artists has been corrupted and their consciousness has been purchased. Husain is captured by the above said both specters; first he was corrupted politically than purchased in 100 million by an industrialist thus having lost his consciousness of freedom, the very condition of to be modern he is finished.

This danger of being exploited is most critical question than an attack from a fascist regime. You can easily face the enemy if he comes in open but an enemy who is insider and have camouflaged, not easily identified than it would be tough to defeat that enemy. Fascism no doubt is our enemy but most important enemy is that one in which these all political singularities like liberal parties, pseudo Marxist parties etc. are interknitted. This enemy is identified as capitalism, in india it is feudalist-capitalism characterized by non progressiveness.

On this juncture of history no philosophy of reason can save the most sublime aspect of humanity i.e. culture. But art have that spirit since it had always fought against these forces. Those art forms which represent appearances figuratively, or narrate in a visual language had always been victim of political. However there were artists; who in figurative genre did something remarkable and immortal. Starting with Da Vinci Leonardo we have Matisse, Cezanne, Vincent Van Gauge, Paul Gauguin, Henri Moor, and Brankusi, who were engaged in creating something new other than appearances.

They wanted to transcend empirical reality, more correctly they wanted to separate art work from it since they believed that by doing so they will be able to create a second nature. This is why for these masters artworks are answers to their own questions of art. These artists were advocates of autonomy of art. Without autonomy art can not be creative as for as creativity is concerned. This question of autonomy is very important today since some political minded artists want to politicize art. The danger of loss of autonomy is not only from political side, it is also from them who want to convert art in industry and art work as an industrial production.

Artists should realize their responsibility sincerely in order to create something new. Art is not production. Art work inaugurates the truth; act of art is inaugural not political or declarations nor appeals nor interpretations of history, as we see today. In fine art only abstract art has the possibility to take a leap from the all hitherto subjects of representation because it is only available form of visual language other than philosophy which can think and take a leap. Being inaugural abstraction has no purpose other than itself i.e. completion of work in progress.

Work in progress is the very field where abstraction finds its horizon, its immanence. Abstract painting is not made; it is inaugurated in the process. This process is subjectively mediated but objectively accomplished. Abstract painting says nothing other than itself. It is poem, a visual poem but without meaning. To belong to the language of abstraction, means that we disappear in to the event of painting.

In Indian modern art context there are few masters who give us hope today. Today many abstract artists are producing designs in the name of abstract art; they dont understand the demand of abstraction except market demand. They are selling abstract art in the name of spiritual art though they dont know what is spiritual. These artists are mostly from a recently born school called Bhopal school of which there is a pope ( not naming now ) and a sanrakshak artist. This school follows Raza since sometime he promotes them and distributes them Raza award. They are religious-spiritual in their tone and language.

I have come across many artists who are cleverly using religious words and terminology as a title for their paintings though they have never come across those philosophical concepts. Abstract artist should not identify abstraction with religion since abstraction is a modern concept of art. It may or may not be necessarily spiritual and mystical; abstraction is just going beyond empirical reality, it is transcendental. This is why it is more concerned with philosophico- mysticism than religious.

In india abstraction has become religious; it has lost its philosophical flavor. The most important abstractionists in india like Raza, Gaitonde, Sohan qadri, G.R.Santosh, O.P.Sharma., KC.S.Pannikar, J.Swaminathan (before initiated in Vedanta swami was materialist) etc are religious abstractionists. They do associate themselves with religions and religious mysticism. Though it is not bad concept regarding abstraction (if one really understands religious consciousness) yet it dilutes artists consciousness because of which they do not really experiences the real ecstasy of artistic creation.

Abstraction as an experience itself; an experience in which one discloses him self into work of art is what is described by modern masters and aestheticians as an act of abstraction. In Kandinskyan sense too, Abstraction is the seeking of the inner by the way of the outer means through work in progress one opens himself. Abstract art work is spiritual only through the negation; it speaks the language of neti neti. Abstraction gives freedom to negate but it is not nihilism; it crates something out of nothingness but at the same time this something is not about something. It is that something itself, it is self sufficient entity: it is a work of art. This is why it is autonomous entity and demands autonomy for its existence.

From this point of view Abstraction is not considered as a genre rather as another form of expression within visual language. And it must be considered as such because this is the only platform from where one can take a flight. This is its relevant today when art has been considered political if not social. When postmodernism as a philosophy of life is knocking our doors and pursuing us through communication industry to indulge in a sheer material pleasure by declaring the demise of subject itself; the theory of abstraction becomes more important. Abstraction is most revolutionary of all art forms because it defies rationalist challenges and gives hope to humanity. Mans manliness is not only the gratification of desires rather to discover his being. See what Heidegger says in his poem -

At first take the last glow of blessing

from the dark hearth of be-ing

that it may kindle the countering:

godship-human kind is one.

through the distress of bold clearing

Between the world and the earth as song

To inaugurate all things

In joyful thanks to accord and rank.

Shelter in word the silent message

Of a leap over the large and small

And lose the empty findings

Of a sudden semblance on the way to be-ing.

Disney's Best For Spring Break

walt Disney World in Orlando Florida is 49 square miles. The size of a whole city and inside the World, as it is known, there are unlimited ways to entertain yourself. I have listed the ten most enjoyable attractions at Disney World appropriate for all ages.

1. From EPCOT the winner is Honey I shrunk the Audience. The audience in this attraction appears to have been shrunk down to the size of ants as a giant film shows on the screen. As rodents run past in the movie your chair shakes appropriately. When someone on screen sneezes you will get a light mist in your face. This one has everyone squealing with delight. This is an attraction for all ages.

2. From The Magic Kingdom comes the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger spin. You are enlisted to help Buzz save the Universe.. The way you achieve this is by way of laser cannons that are set in front of you in a futuristic car hurling through space. Your car will spin while you try to hit targets out in the Universe. The effects are achieve with black light and glow in the dark surfaces. Kids get great joy out of making their parents dizzy on this one. Do not miss this one.

3. disney-MGM Studious Back lot Tour at disney-MGM is an informative excursion. Guests get to tour through movie sets on a tram. It is fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes to create special effects and different scenes. At the end you are taken through floods and explosions before being shown how it is done.

4. Disneyquest at downtown disney is an often overlooked indoor theme park. This larger than life arcade provides a welcome respite from the broiling Florida sun. It is five stories high of interactive entertainment. On the Pirates of the caribbean attraction inside Disneyquest you an up to three others are manning a schooner fighting against pirates and sea monsters. One plays the roll of captain steering the vessel while the others are busy launching cannons at the bad guys. Just when you think it is over a giant sea creature tries to board your ship and you must defend once again. This attraction will take your mind off of anything else as you will be preoccupied with your own survival. Fun is the operative word here, for all ages.

5. Also from Disneyquest is the Extraterrestrial Alien Encounter where you can blast and be blasted inside of small spaceship that you fly. Actually you drive it around a floor painted like the milky way. One person steers while the other shoots large rubber cannons from the ship. If you hit an opponent at just the place it will send their ship into a tailspin. All the more fun is if someone else hits your ship's target spot.

6. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at Magic Kingdom provides a bit of nostalgia for parents and a sense of wonder in the little ones . Seeing Pooh and friends come alive in the Hundred Acre Wood will warm your heart. This one gets busy though so you may want to use a fast pass if the park is packed.

7. The fireworks show is best viewed from Magic Kingdom. Depending on the time of year there are different themes to this one but one thing remains constant disney doesn't do anything halfway and this is no exception. One year I saw the Fourth of July fireworks and the explosions were in the shape of stars. The show was visible all the way from the Disney Pop Century hotel which is not right next door. All ages will ooh and gasp over the show.

8. Mickey's PhilharMagic show is a 3D short movie shown on the largest seamless screen ever built. As per all things disney it is not just a film. This attraction has the audience watching a scene from Fantasia where Donald Duck puts on Mickey's magical hat and is catapulted into the audience. You will smell the scents and feel water and a surprising but not painful sting as well have a visual experience like no other. This may be the most entertaining twelve minutes you ever spend in a movie theater. Bring the kiddies but don't sit back fully in your chair if you want to avoid the sting.

9. At EPCOT the are many national pavilions. The best of all is the Mexico Pavilion. inside there is a slow boat ride around the Rio el Tiempo Volcano. This is a gentle and peaceful ride that serves to calm overstimulated children and quell the fire of aching feet in adults.

10. Dinosaur at Disney's animal Kingdom is not an Aladar ride as I was led to believe. There is a life size Aladar from the kids movie called Dinosaur standing right outside but don't let that fool you. You and your fellow victims are strapped into large metal jeep like vehicles and taken on a trip back in time to when the great beasts roamed the earth. At the end you find out you have mistakenly transported a dinosaur forward to modern times. It is more transfixing that frightening unless like myself you are worried you may fall out of the car and be electrocuted on the track. My fellow pint sized riders had a rollicking good time while I rode in terror. Take your chances. There is a height restriction on this one of 40 inches.

Bluetooth Basics - Bluetooth Technology Tutorial

Bluetooth Basics

Bluetooth technology is nothing new, but in many respects it still seems to be more of a buzz word rather than a well understood, commonly accepted technology. You see advertisements for Bluetooth enabled cell phones, PDAs, and laptops, and a search of the Geeks.com website shows all sorts of different devices taking advantage of this wireless standard. but, what is it?

History

Before getting into the technology, the word Bluetooth is intriguing all on its own, and deserves a look. The term is far less high tech than you might imagine, and finds its roots in European history. The King of Denmark from 940 to 981 was renowned for his ability to help people communicate, his name (in English)... Harald Bluetooth. Perhaps a bit obscure, but the reference is appropriate for a wireless communications standard.

Another item worth investigating is the Bluetooth logo. Based on characters from the runic alphabet (used in ancient Denmark), it was chosen as it appears to be the combination of the English letter B and an asterisk.

Capabilities

The FAQ on the Bluetooth.org (https://www.bluetooth.org/) website offers a basic definition: "Bluetooth wireless technology is a worldwide specification for a small-form factor, low-cost radio solution that provides links between mobile computers, mobile phones, other portable handheld devices, and connectivity to the Internet."

Just like 802.11 b/g wireless networking systems and many cordless telephones, Bluetooth devices operate on 2.4 GHz radio signals. That band seems to be getting a bit crowded, and interference between devices may be difficult to avoid. Telephones are now being offered on the 5.8 GHz band to help remedy this, and Bluetooth has taken its own steps to reduce interference and improve transmission quality. version 1.1 of the Bluetooth standard greatly reduces interference issues, but requires completely different hardware from the original 1.0C standard, thus eliminating any chance of backwards compatibility.

The typical specifications of Bluetooth indicate a maximum transfer rate of 723 kbps and a range of 20-100 meters (65 to 328 feet - depending on the class of the device). This speed is a fraction of that offered by 802.11 b or g wireless standards, so it is obvious that Bluetooth doesnt pose a threat to replace your wireless network. Although it is very similar to 802.11 in many ways, Bluetooth was never intended to be a networking standard, but does have many practical applications.

Practical Applications

There are a variety of products that take advantage of Bluetooths capabilities, from laptops and PDAs, to headphones and input devices, and even wireless printer adapters.

Many Laptops include an onboard Bluetooth adaptor to allow the system to connect to any Bluetooth device right out of the box. For laptop or desktop systems that do not have an adaptor built in, there are many usb Bluetooth adaptors available.

Bluetooth enabled PDAs allow for convenient wireless synchronization and data transfer.

headphones can take advantage of Bluetooth for two purposes audio playback and mobile phone communications. Using something a mobile headset with a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone allows anyone to go hands free, as well as wire free.

Logitech, and other manufacturers, also produce input devices that eliminate wires thanks to Bluetooth. You can add a Bluetooth mouse to your system, or both a mouse and keyboard. One advantage that Bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse combinations have over the standard RF wireless keyboard/mouse combinations is range. Where most standard RF keyboard/mouse combinations have a range up to 6 feet; a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combination will usually have a range of up to 30 feet.

Bluetooth printer adaptors make sharing a printer extremely convenient by eliminating the need for any wires or special configurations on a typical network. Printing to any compatible HP printer from a PC, PDA or mobile phone can now be done easily from anywhere in the office.

Final Words

At this point the popularity of Bluetooth might not be as large as some proponents would have hoped, but many devices are available for those interested. The cost and competition from other standards have hindered the widespread acceptance, but Bluetooth does offer a viable solution to many devices that might not have wireless connectivity without it.
